A new tuition-free barbering program is set to launch this fall through Allan Hancock College Community Education, offering residents a direct path into the skilled trades without the burden of student debt. The initiative aims to address local workforce needs while providing an accessible entry point for those looking to start a new career.
The program will cover the fundamentals of barbering, including cutting techniques, shaving, sanitation, and state board exam preparation. Organizers say the goal is to equip students with the skills and licensing required to begin working immediately after completion. By removing the cost barrier, the college hopes to attract a diverse group of learners who might otherwise be unable to afford vocational training.
Classes are scheduled to begin in the coming months at the college's Santa Maria campus. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply early, as space is expected to fill quickly.
