The Ken-Ton School District hosted a team of state education leaders at Kenmore Junior/Senior High School on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to learn how the district is expanding graduation opportunities for its students. The visit gave officials a firsthand look at the programs and strategies the district has put in place to help more students earn diplomas and prepare for life after high school.
During the tour, the visitors walked through classrooms and spoke with staff and students about the initiatives driving the district's progress. School leaders shared details on how scheduling changes, credit recovery options, and career-focused pathways have opened new routes to graduation for students who might otherwise have fallen behind. The team also heard about efforts to identify struggling students earlier and connect them with the support they need before credits slip away.
District officials said the visit was an opportunity to show how local decisions are producing measurable results. They noted that the number of students on track to graduate has climbed in recent years, and they credited teachers and counselors for the extra attention given to students at risk of dropping out. State leaders asked questions about how the models could be replicated in other districts facing similar challenges.
The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion where administrators, faculty, and students talked about what is working and what still needs improvement. District leaders said they welcome the chance to share their experience and to learn from state officials about resources that could strengthen their efforts going forward.
