SMART Education Department Welcomes New Representatives With Training Class

The SMART Education Department held its New Representatives class in St. Louis, Mo., during the week of August 24, 2026. The session brought together newly appointed representatives from across the organization for several days of focused instruction and hands-on practice.

The program covered the core duties that come with the role, including how to handle member concerns, understand contracts, and navigate the grievance process. Instructors walked participants through real situations they are likely to face, giving them a chance to ask questions and work through problems before returning to their home locals.

Attendees also spent time learning how to communicate effectively with both members and employers. Organizers said the goal was to make sure every new representative leaves with a clear sense of what the job requires and where to find support when difficult issues come up.

The class included group discussions, role playing exercises, and time for participants to share their own experiences. Many said the chance to connect with other new representatives was just as valuable as the formal lessons.

The department plans to hold additional sessions in the coming months as more representatives step into their roles.
