Mott Community College is expanding its reach into northern Genesee County with the opening of a new instructional site located within Clio High School. The initiative aims to provide local students and residents with convenient access to four foundational college courses without requiring a commute to the main Flint campus.
The new site will offer classes in English composition, mathematics, psychology, and public speaking—core requirements that often serve as stepping stones for students pursuing associate degrees or planning to transfer to four-year universities. By embedding these courses directly into the high school building, Mott Community College hopes to reduce barriers such as transportation and scheduling conflicts that can deter potential learners.
Clio High School officials expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that the arrangement allows high school students to earn college credit while still enrolled in secondary education. Adult learners in the surrounding community will also benefit from evening and weekend class options, making higher education more accessible for working parents and those with full-time jobs.
The instructional site is set to begin offering classes this upcoming semester. Registration is now open, and college advisors will be available on-site to assist with enrollment, financial aid applications, and academic planning. This expansion reflects a broader trend among community colleges to decentralize their services and meet students where they live, particularly in rural or suburban areas where access to higher education can be limited.
