The Education for Tomorrow Alliance, known as EfTA, has partnered with over 90 businesses throughout Montgomery County and surrounding areas to deliver summer internship opportunities for 240 students this year. The program aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, giving young people a chance to explore career paths before they graduate.
Participating companies span a wide range of industries, including healthcare, technology, engineering, finance, and retail. Students will work alongside professionals, gaining hands-on skills that go beyond what textbooks can teach. For many, this is their first exposure to a professional work environment, and the experience can shape their future academic and career choices.
EfTA organizers emphasize that these internships are not just about filling a summer slot. They are designed to be meaningful, with mentors assigned to guide each student through projects and daily tasks. The goal is to build confidence and competence, while also helping local businesses invest in the next generation of workers.
Montgomery County school officials have voiced strong support for the initiative, noting that internships can reduce the gap between what students learn in school and what employers actually need. The program also helps students build professional networks early, which can lead to job offers down the road.
For the businesses involved, the partnership offers a chance to shape young talent and give back to the community. Many companies report that interns often return as full-time employees after graduation, making the investment worthwhile.
EfTA plans to expand the program next year, with hopes of reaching even more students and businesses across the region.
