Laredo school districts earn top TEA ratings for 2026

Both Laredo school districts are celebrating strong results from the Texas Education Agency's latest accountability ratings. Laredo Independent School District earned its first A rating since 2021, while United Independent School District secured its seventh consecutive A, marking a consistent streak of academic achievement.

District officials say the ratings reflect years of focused work on student performance, teacher development, and campus support. LISD leaders pointed to gains in reading and math across multiple grade levels, as well as improved outcomes for English learners and economically disadvantaged students. The district had previously earned a B rating in 2022 and 2023 before climbing back to the top tier.

UISD, meanwhile, continues its run of excellence. The district has now received an A rating every year since the TEA introduced the current A-F system in 2018, with the exception of the 2020-2021 school year when ratings were paused due to the pandemic. Officials credit strong community partnerships, early literacy programs, and targeted interventions for keeping the district at the highest level.

Both districts also noted that the ratings come after a year of significant changes in state testing standards, making the results even more meaningful. Campus-level breakdowns will be released by TEA in the coming weeks, allowing parents to see how individual schools performed.

Superintendents from both districts thanked teachers, staff, students, and families for their dedication. They said the ratings are not just a number but a reflection of daily effort in classrooms across the city. Looking ahead, both districts plan to build on these results by expanding tutoring, professional development, and college readiness programs.
