UNMC chancellor priority candidate excited for future of education, healthcare

During his stops, Davies has emphasized the need to bridge the gap between cutting-edge medical research and everyday patient care. He envisions UNMC as a hub that not only trains the next generation of healthcare professionals but also directly improves the health of rural and urban Nebraskans alike. "The future is about integrating technology, data, and compassion," Davies said in a recent address. "We have a unique opportunity to lead in areas like precision medicine and community health outreach."

Davies also highlighted the importance of collaboration across the university system, noting that partnerships between UNMC and other campuses can create a stronger pipeline for students entering medical fields. His tour includes stops in Omaha, Lincoln, and several rural communities, where he is listening to local concerns about access to care and workforce shortages.

The UNMC Board of Regents is expected to vote on Davies' appointment in the coming weeks. If approved, he will succeed Dr. Jeffrey Gold, who stepped down earlier this year. Davies currently serves as a senior vice chancellor at UNMC and has a background in pediatrics and public health.
