UNC receives $10,000 grant for SCOLA Program

United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania has secured a $10,000 grant from the Hawk Family Foundation to support its SCOLA program, a move that will broaden access to adult learning across the region. The funding arrives at a time when demand for flexible education options continues to climb, particularly among working adults and those looking to improve their job prospects.

The SCOLA program, which stands for Second Chance Opportunities for Learning and Advancement, offers classes in basic literacy, English as a second language, and high school equivalency preparation. It also provides career readiness workshops and digital skills training, helping participants build a foundation for long-term success. With this new grant, UNC plans to expand class hours, add more one-on-one tutoring slots, and purchase updated learning materials and technology.
