Take an educational whale watching tour with Aquarium of the Pacific naturalists

Visitors to Long Beach can now join daily whale watching excursions led by naturalists from the Aquarium of the Pacific. These trips, operated in partnership with Harbor Breeze Cruises, give passengers a chance to see blue whales, gray whales, dolphins, and sea lions in their natural habitat while learning about marine biology from trained experts.

The naturalists provide live commentary throughout the voyage, pointing out animal behaviors and explaining the local ecosystem. The tours run year-round, with different species migrating through the waters off Southern California depending on the season. During winter and spring, gray whales pass through on their long migration. Summer and fall bring blue whales and fin whales, which feed in the nutrient-rich waters of the San Pedro Channel.

Beyond the experience on the water, every ticket sold helps support the aquarium's conservation and education programs. A portion of the cruise revenue goes directly toward research, animal care, and public outreach efforts. For many passengers, the tour becomes a memorable lesson in ocean stewardship, blending sightseeing with science in a way that feels natural and engaging.
