The School Board is reviewing two proposals for elementary school attendance zones in northeast Loudoun County, including one that would keep current boundaries unchanged. The discussion comes as district officials work to balance enrollment across schools in a fast growing part of the county.
Under the first plan, existing attendance zones would remain as they are, avoiding disruption for families and staff. Supporters of this approach say stability matters, especially for students who have already changed schools and for parents who have built routines around their neighborhood campuses.
The second plan would shift some students to different schools to relieve crowding and make better use of classroom space. District staff presented enrollment figures showing uneven growth across the region, with some buildings nearing capacity while others have room to absorb more students. Officials said the review is meant to address those imbalances before they become harder to manage.
Parents have raised questions about transportation, walkability, and how quickly any changes would take effect. Board members said they want more community feedback before making a decision and asked staff to prepare additional details on costs and timelines. A vote is expected in the coming weeks, and any approved changes would likely apply to the next school year.
