A new scholarship aimed at adult learners is now available through a local foundation, offering support to people who want to continue their education later in life. The Chris and Mary Thaman Adult Continuing Education Scholarship was presented during a recent check ceremony, marking the start of a fund designed to reduce the financial barriers that often keep working adults from pursuing new training or degrees.
Those taking part in the presentation included Bryan Area Foundation Vice Chair J.T. Stelzer and family representative Mary Ann Thaman. Their presence highlighted the partnership between the foundation and the family behind the award, which honors the memory of Chris and Mary Thaman and their belief in lifelong learning.
The scholarship is intended for adults who may have paused their education to work, raise a family, or handle other responsibilities. Returning to school can feel out of reach when tuition, books, and lost work hours add up. This fund is meant to ease some of that pressure and encourage applicants to take the next step, whether that means a certificate program, a two year degree, or a four year degree.
Adults interested in applying should contact the foundation for eligibility details, deadlines, and required materials. Organizers say they hope the award will grow over time and help more people in the community finish what they started.
