Santa Maria Preschool to Become Childcare, Education Campus

Santa Maria Preschool to Become Childcare, Education Campus

A local nonprofit has taken a significant step toward expanding early childhood services in northern Santa Barbara County. CommUnify recently completed the purchase of the former Grace Lutheran Preschool property in Santa Maria, paying $950,000 for the site. The organization plans to transform the space into a dedicated childcare and early education campus, aiming to address a growing need for affordable options in the area.

The acquisition includes the existing school buildings and outdoor play areas, which will be renovated to meet current licensing standards and program needs. CommUnify officials say the new campus will allow them to serve more families, particularly those with low to moderate incomes who often struggle to find reliable care. The site is expected to offer full-day programs, with a focus on school readiness and developmental support for young children.

This move comes as part of a broader effort by the nonprofit to strengthen its network of family services across the region. The former preschool location was chosen for its size, accessibility, and established layout, which reduces the time needed to open. While an official opening date has not been announced, the organization is moving forward with planning and permitting. Once operational, the campus will join other CommUnify programs that provide housing assistance, energy aid, and family support, creating a more complete system of care for local residents.
