Mayor Shannon Glover addressed the setback during a city council meeting this week, acknowledging the frustration among students and families who were expecting the facility to open this fall. The Advanced Career Education Center, located on High Street, was designed to provide hands-on training in fields like healthcare, information technology, and skilled trades.
According to school district representatives, the contractor failed to meet several key deadlines, leading to unfinished interior work and unresolved safety inspections. The district has not announced a new opening date but said it is working to hold the company accountable under the terms of the contract.
Mayor Glover emphasized that the city remains committed to the project, calling it a critical investment in the local workforce. He urged patience while officials resolve the delays and finalize the building. In the meantime, some programs planned for the center will continue at existing school facilities, though at a reduced capacity. The city plans to provide regular updates as the situation develops.
