Pierpont aviation program facility to expand student population, education opportunities

Pierpont Community and Technical College is moving forward with plans to grow its Aviation Maintenance Technology Program, using a new facility and targeted outreach to bring in more students and broaden what the program can offer.

The expansion centers on giving students more room to train on the equipment and systems they will encounter in the field. Program leaders say the updated space allows for additional hands-on instruction, which is central to preparing graduates for certification and entry level jobs in aviation maintenance.

Outreach efforts are also part of the strategy. The college is working to introduce the program to prospective students earlier, including those who may not have considered aviation as a career path. By connecting with high schools and community groups, staff hope to show that the field offers stable work and clear advancement opportunities.

Instructors note that demand for qualified aviation maintenance technicians remains strong across the region and beyond. With retirements expected to reshape the workforce in the coming years, programs like the one at Pierpont are positioned to help fill that gap.

The combination of a modern training facility and active recruitment could mean more graduates entering the industry, and more options for students seeking a practical, skill based education close to home.
