New workforce intermediary meets in Fayetteville to discuss connections between education, regional employment opportunities

FAYETTEVILLE -- More than 100 education and business leaders gathered to attend a panel and strategic plan presentation from the Northwest Arkansas Council, exploring connections between education and regional employment opportunities.

The event focused on how schools, colleges, and local employers can work together to prepare students for jobs in the region. Panelists discussed the need for stronger partnerships between classrooms and workplaces, noting that many open positions remain unfilled while graduates struggle to find roles that match their skills.

Speakers highlighted several key areas, including career and technical education, internships, and apprenticeship programs. They said these pathways give students hands-on experience and help employers build a pipeline of qualified workers. The strategic plan presentation outlined goals for improving communication between educators and industry leaders, aligning curriculum with local labor market needs, and expanding access to training programs.

Attendees also talked about challenges such as transportation, childcare, and digital access, which can keep some residents from pursuing training or staying in the workforce. Organizers said the meeting was a first step toward a more coordinated effort across the region.

The council plans to continue the conversation with follow-up sessions and working groups. Leaders said the goal is to create a system where education and employment support each other, helping residents find stable jobs and helping businesses grow.
