East Allen County Schools Board Says Farewell to Longtime Member at Final Meeting

The East Allen County Schools board held its final meeting of the year with a bittersweet moment as members honored a departing colleague who served on the board for more than six years. The outgoing member, a former teacher who spent decades in the district's classrooms, received a formal resolution of appreciation and a standing ovation from staff and community members in attendance.

Board president noted the honoree's unique perspective, having worked directly with students before moving into a governance role. "You brought an educator's heart to every policy decision," the president said. The departing member thanked the board and district staff, calling her time on the board "a second career that kept me connected to the students and teachers I care about."

The meeting also included routine approvals of personnel changes, a review of the district's upcoming calendar, and a brief update on facility maintenance projects. No major policy votes were taken. The board will seat a new member at its next regular meeting in January. The departing member's replacement was appointed by the county commissioners earlier this month and will fill the remainder of the term through 2026.

The district serves more than 10,000 students across northeastern Indiana.
