Britain will strengthen Holocaust education and require schools to address antisemitism as a specific safety risk following a major review of anti-Jewish hatred. The changes aim to give teachers clearer guidance and make sure students learn about the Holocaust in a way that connects to present day prejudice.
Under the plan, schools will be expected to treat antisemitism as a safeguarding issue rather than a minor behavioral problem. Staff will receive training to recognize anti-Jewish harassment, including slurs, graffiti, and online abuse, and to respond consistently when incidents occur. The review found that many pupils encounter antisemitic tropes online before they study the Holocaust in class, leaving teachers to correct misinformation with limited support.
Education leaders welcomed the focus on practical training but cautioned that schools need time and resources to put the changes in place. Community groups said the announcement sends a clear signal that anti-Jewish hatred will not be tolerated in classrooms. The government said it will publish detailed guidance for schools and monitor how the new requirements are implemented over the coming school year.
